What CheckMyLocation.net does
When you open the main page, the site can use your public IP address to provide an approximate starting location such as a country, region or city. This is useful immediately, but IP geolocation should not be treated as an exact physical position.
If you choose Show My Current Location and allow browser permission, your device can provide a more precise latitude, longitude and accuracy estimate. The map then moves to that position.
From coordinates to a useful place name
Raw coordinates are useful, but most people would rather see a recognizable place. After browser location succeeds, the tool can reverse-geocode the coordinates to update the displayed city, region and country while keeping latitude, longitude and accuracy available in the detail panel.
Who the tool is for
- Everyday users who simply want to know their current location or see it on a map.
- Travelers who want a quick location check in an unfamiliar area.
- VPN and proxy users comparing their approximate IP location with their physical browser location.
- Developers and testers checking browser geolocation, IP geolocation and location-dependent behavior.
- Privacy-conscious users who want to understand the difference between an IP estimate and precise browser permission.
How accuracy works
Browser geolocation accuracy depends on the device and environment. A phone outdoors may have a strong GPS fix, while a desktop computer or indoor device may rely more heavily on nearby Wi-Fi networks or other positioning signals.
- Smaller accuracy radius: generally means a more precise reported position.
- IP location: usually provides only an approximate city/region-level estimate.
- VPNs and proxies: commonly change the IP-based location without changing the device's physical browser location.
- Mobile networks: carrier routing can sometimes make an IP-based estimate appear far from the actual device.
Privacy approach
The tool does not require an account and browser location permission is optional. Precise location is requested only when you choose to use that feature. For a fuller explanation of location processing, maps, reverse geocoding, analytics and third-party services, read the Privacy Policy.
