Privacy Policy

CheckMyLocation.net is designed to show location information with as little friction as possible. This page explains what information may be processed when you use the site and how browser location permission works.

Last updated: August 23, 2026

Location permission

Precise browser location is optional. Your browser asks for permission before sharing your device location with this page. If you do not grant permission, the main tool can still show an approximate location based on your public IP address when that information is available.

  • Browser geolocation: If you allow access, your browser may provide latitude, longitude and an accuracy estimate using GPS, Wi-Fi, mobile-network and other device location signals.
  • On-page use: Those coordinates are used to update the location details and map shown to you.
  • No location account: You do not need an account or profile to use the location tool.
  • No intentional coordinate database: We do not intentionally store your precise browser coordinates in our own database just for using this tool.

Reverse geocoding and maps

After you grant browser location permission, the site may send the latitude and longitude returned by your browser to OpenStreetMap-related services in order to display a map and convert coordinates into a human-readable place such as a city, region and country.

The current tool uses OpenStreetMap map content and may use the Nominatim reverse-geocoding service. Requests to those third-party services are subject to their own privacy policies, logging practices and terms.

IP address and approximate location

Like nearly every website, our server receives your public IP address when you load a page. The location tool may use that IP address to estimate information such as country, region, city and network organization.

IP-based location is approximate. It can point to an ISP location, mobile-network gateway, VPN server or nearby city rather than your physical position. We do not intentionally store your IP address in a separate database solely for the purpose of using the location tool. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may maintain standard server logs for security, reliability and troubleshooting.

Analytics

We may use analytics services to understand how visitors use the site, which pages are useful and whether features are working correctly. Analytics providers may process information such as page views, device/browser information, approximate location derived from network data, interactions and similar usage statistics. They may also use cookies or comparable technologies according to their own policies.

Advertising, partner offers and affiliate links

CheckMyLocation.net may display advertising or links to third-party offers. Advertising providers and partner sites may receive normal web-request information when their content is loaded or when you choose to visit them. They may use cookies or other technologies according to their own policies.

Some links may be affiliate links. If you visit or purchase through an affiliate link, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Third-party services

Third-party services used by the site can have their own privacy policies and data-retention practices. This includes map/reverse-geocoding providers, analytics providers, advertising services and websites reached through partner links. We do not control how an independent third-party service handles information after a request reaches that service.

Your choices

  • You can use the site without creating an account.
  • You can decline browser location permission.
  • You can revoke location permission later through your browser's site settings.
  • You can use browser privacy controls or content blockers to limit cookies and third-party scripts, although some features may then work differently.
